The Jewellery Box
Currently on the drawing board.
An intricately designed home for a jeweller with a keen eye for detail, the house is a humble volume with a series of drawers pulled open to reveal future moments of the interior.
The Jewellery Box responds to the gently sloping site by stepping up the hill and creating a playful, split-level plan. Carefully considered views over the valley to the east are framed in feature windows.
A smokey, chocolate brown exterior is befitting for a jewellery box, and allows the house to recede into the surrounding native bush. Contrasting aluminium seamlessly frames the pop-out drawers.
A renaissance of 1970s modernist architecture, the interior is layered with ply walls, timber ceilings and concrete masonry inspired by a love for the architecture of John Scott. Feature blockwork and tiles complement the natural, warm tones of the timber throughout.
The home uses passive design principles and detailing to create a high-performance, low-impact home for future generations to come.
