Lynch Lane
Currently on the drawing board.
An arrangement of airy indoor living spaces and outdoor courtyards, the house follows the hillside overlooking Frankton Arm. The architecture lends itself to the expressive mountainous backdrop: a shadowy cluster of gables reflecting the rugged Remarkables, opening up to the sun from the north and views to the south.
Outlook is key to the design, with spaces carefully positioned to maximise views from every room. The south-facing site advocates a need for clerestory glazing to let in sun from the north, while maintaining privacy from the street and houses above. With the house arranged over three levels, outdoor living space wraps around the central floor, establishing this ‘landing’ as the heart of the home.
Simple, durable materials inform the exterior façade – suitable for the frosty climate, with timber bringing warmth to the interior. Schist bookends the public space and grounds the house into the hillside.
