Peka Peka Beach House
Currently on the drawing board.
A windswept tussocks sweep up the sand dunes to the house, lying low in the landscape and evoking an inherent connection to the site. The undulating terrain has a strong influence on the form, spilling down the site over two levels.
The split level separates living and sleeping space, with a bunkroom and guest room peacefully distanced from an open plan kitchen, dining and living space. The house wraps around a sheltered central courtyard, fulfilling the brief of a timeless seaside home that can be used year-round. The living spaces are relaxed and luxurious, flowing seamlessly outdoors.
The house has a strong relationship to the beach, informing the exterior materials with natural tones: elegant dark timber contrast with sandy, white-washed brick curving into the entry with screen details giving the bedrooms light and privacy.
The home feels coastal, calm and connected to the site: designed to last a lifetime and providing the perfect space to escape the city and spend time with family and friends.
