Perched above the tides of Otago Harbour, this mid-century–inspired renovation opens the home to the ātaahua coastal landscape of Ōtepoti, Dunedin. Warm timber tones bring a sense of calm and connection to the land, grounding the home within its natural surrounds while framing sweeping harbour views.

Designed for a growing family, the project reimagines the existing footprint as a vibrant, functional sanctuary that can adapt and evolve over time. Key living spaces have been opened and refined, the master bedroom extended, and a new ensuite, entry, laundry, and storage areas introduced to improve everyday comfort and flow — all anchored by a new carport carefully carved from the land.

Balancing preservation with renewal, the renovation strengthens the home’s original charm while introducing a refined contemporary layout — one that enhances connection, celebrates light, and deepens the family’s relationship with each other and their place.
